The Mosaic Diode Laser is an illumination source specifically intended for use with the Mosaic photostimulation device. It is available in 405nm and 445nm versions to suit FRAP and other photostimulation applications such as photoconversion, or photoswitching. The Mosaic Diode laser module itself is comprised of several components including a beam homogeniser and control boxes. It is simple in its operation and available functionality. Further technical information is provided here: Laser Information for Mosaic Photostimulation. It is possible to combine the diode laser with the HLE if both are present for certain applications.
Note: It is possible that some systems may have both models of the diode laser. Therefore, update the alias name if using more than one device so they may be clearly identified.
Controls
Controls for the Diode Laser are available on both Feature Panel and Remote Panel.
Software Shutter
User can open and close the software shutter functionality using the On/Off button.
Laser Intensity
Laser Intensity can be set using the slider or by typing the value manually in the text field, range goes from 0% - 100%.
Note that Mosaic laser has to be switched on for intensity to be adjusted - be careful not to expose sample to unwanted illumination. If all stray light needs to be excluded from the sample e.g. an optogenetics experiment then it would be recommended to have the shutter accessory installed on the Mosaic to eliminate any stray light from the sample.
Manual control of the Mosaic Diode Laser
In addition to being under software control it is also possible to control the Diode laser manually. The Mosaic laser control unit has the following controls:
USB-Man
Switch to move the Mosaic diode laser to and from USB (software) to Manual control.
HI RANGE and LO RANGE
Select and adjust laser intensity between low through to high power, using the LO and HI range knobs in combination with the Off switch.
